Relocation Services

Sometimes, it becomes clear to a congregation that their vision or calling for ministry no longer fits the community surrounding their building. Perhaps their visibility is limited because they are located “off the beaten path.” Or, they may be housed in a building that is too big, too inaccessible to people with disabilities or too costly to maintain. If any of these scenarios apply to your congregation, it may be time to relocate.

Disciples Church Extension Fund (DCEF) and Hope Partnership for Missional Transformation have teamed up to provide a package of services designed to assist congregations with relocating their ministry to a place that’s right and in the right place. Hope Partnership serves congregations by equipping courageous leaders with transformational services, such as New Beginnings and Epiphany.

What is the Relocation Service?

What are the phases of the process?

The key to getting the most out of DCEF’s relocation service is to realize that the church is much more than a space housed with four walls. One Disciples congregation that “got it” was Shawnee Park Community Christian Church (formerly Shawnee Park Christian Church), located in the city of Shawnee, Kansas. The church started many years ago, grew in its heyday, and then found itself struggling more recently with an unclear purpose in an ageing building with a large mortgage. So church leaders went through the intentional process of discernment about their future, resulting in a bold decision to sell their property and relocate to a rented space. Four years ago, they moved into their new Holy Place, starting over as a new church (Pastor Johnny Lewis is a former Hope Partnership Leadership Academy participant). In their new leased Holy Place, Shawnee Park Community Christian Church members are dedicating themselves and their resources to mission for their neighbors in need.
